“A Granddaughter’s Remembering”

I remember having a conversation with a child aged 5 after her grandma had died.  This young child frequently expressed sadness and a few tears while sharing stories of times spent with grandma.

The sharing of stories continued for several years but quickly changed from times spent with grandma to seeing grandma’s spirit on a regular basis.  Many professionals call this “magical thinking”.

There was a period when the spirit of the grandma didn’t appear for a while.  I have no answer as to why the spirit visits stopped or why they started up again.  Could the grandma’s spirit have stayed to comfort this child?

One point of fact is the stories and feelings expressed by this young girl were acknowledged and accepted as valid responses and experiences after a death loss.  This child received respect and consideration of her experiences.

I know several adults who dismiss this sort of talk about seeing spirits and tell children they are just imagining things.  I have also spoken to adults who as young children saw the spirits of their deceased grandparents and to this day say it was real, even though no one believed them at the time.

Seeing, feeling, hearing, smelling and sensing a deceased loved one

is not as uncommon as you may think.

What experiences have you had with spirit?

What stories have you heard?

There are numerous books, resources and internet websites that mention a spirit connection after death.

Your thoughts and stories are welcomed.

All my best,
