IN PERSON SESSIONS are most often done in Barbara’s office.
For many individuals talking about their loss is difficult and the hardest part is finding someone to talk with who “GETS IT” and whom you can relate to.
If you are ready to do the GRIEF WORK and want someone who WILL PUT YOU TO WORK, you are at the right place.
Sometimes, Barbara’s counselling and guidance may be acknowledging and explaining more about grief. Chances are you are not going crazy when you feel so out of control in your life and don’t know what to do to take the pain of grief away.
Don’t be surprised, that as you deal with a current loss, past traumas and losses come to the surface. The past situations may seem to mesh with the present circumstance, creating more stress and confusion. Welcome to an aspect of grief getting more complicated!
For other’s, Barbara’s supports can be an avenue to release past hurts, fears and sadness that may be the cause of health-related problems not initially related to grief.
What about the loss experiences that go hidden from conversations? The “SECRET” losses that no one or few are willing to talk about (disenfranchised grief) such as;
Abortion loss experience by men or women (yes, there is help for men too)
Miscarriage or infant loss and child loss of any age
Illness (loss of independence, future dreams etc.)
Relationship loss (depending on the relationship)
Sexual abuse loss (self, relationships, fear, anger etc.)
What to expect
Honest answers to your questions
Compassionate caring and listening to your story and concerns
Being offered additional information and resources as it pertains to your situation
You are 100% in control and are never pressured into a topic you are not ready to talk about
100% confidentiality, what is said here stays here
Encouragement to see your inner strengths
Empowerment when you struggle with moving forward
Seeing new possibilities
Talking with family members and friends about a loss, may sometimes not be the best decision since they;
May be experiencing their own grief reactions
May not want to hear the story of your loss over and over again
May not have the capacity to help in the manner you need at the time
May be being triggered by your loss conversation
May not be an appropriate resource given the situation
ONLINE COUNSELLING sessions may seem unfamiliar to those who have not tried them. The same results as in-person sessions can be achieved. Barbara will fully explain this process when needed and how using a secured site works to protect you and what is discussed online.
Your TO DO before each on-line session
Staying in your comfy clothes if you would like
Choose a quiet location in your home that is private, and comfortable
Have a tea, get a glass of water or whatever you might need for the next hour
Have a blanket handy in case you need it
Maybe a pair of headphones for comfort, but not necessary
Have the box of Kleenexes close by, you may need them sometimes
Barbara will email you an invitation the morning of your appointment and all you have to do is click it when it’s time for your session. If you have any questions or concerns, you can ask Barbara when you chat while making an appointment. Barbara will try to make sure you are comfortable with the on-line session.
GRIEF IS THE BASIS OF MANY CONCERNS IN LIFE, BUT FEW PEOPLE UNDERSTAND THIS.
